metamucil diet

Metamucil might also be good for weight loss as well as lowering cholesterol and making one regular.

I never considered that Metamucil, the psyllium-fibre filled fibre supplement would help me lose weight. I saw the product demonstrated on Dr. Oz, where he promoted Metamucil for its ability to lower cholesterol and to make it harder for the body to absorb fat, as the psyllium would line your intestines, promoting faster evacuation of waste.

While I never try to preach one product over another, or one weight loss program or diet or another, I immediately noticed some benefits from taking a daily dose of Metamucil. Again, where I was more concerned about cholesterol and high blood pressure, after a week or so, I recognized that I was losing weight.

While yes, I was “regular” as a result of this added fibre, I had never had any bathroom issues to begin with, but I noticed that after having a glass of Metamucil (stirred into 8oz of cold water), it would fill me up. I would have this glass of fibre at lunch time (it tasted like Tang, and not awful-tasting in the least), and I identified that I would have smaller lunches. It seemed that the fibre was filling me up before my lunch did, and so I started eating less.

Because of my work schedule I would often work later, and get home around 4pm or 5pm, and would drink a glass of Metamucil 30 minutes or so before dinner. Now it was having the effect of reducing my evening appetite!

After a month or so of this non-diet dieting, I noticed that I had lost 12 pounds, not too shabby considering all I was doing was avoiding extra helpings at meals. So I focused this fibre-induced diet solution into my everyday routine, and now after three-and-a-half months, I’ve lost a total of 33lbs, going from a sloppy 222lbs down to my present weight of 189lbs.

I expect that I will level off; I wasn’t really that overweight to begin with, but now I am a slimmer version of myself, my cholesterol levels tested lower, and I didn’t have to cut out ANYTHING from my diet, other than how much of what I ate, and most of that courtesy of the fibre magic of Metamucil. I’m not a preacher of dietary products or supplements, but from my own inadvertent experience, I lost a significant amount of weight just by filling myself up, and I suspect the reduced ability to absorb fat in my intestines.

So if you hate diets and you hate going to the gym all the time, and you want to eat what you want, then I suggest you might try the Metamucil Diet (although it’s not really a diet, and I can’t lay claim to any tangible benefits, and only my own personal experience).

People at work have noticed the difference in my weight, and two of my co-workers have started doing the same “diet” as me, and one co-worker said he has lost 10lbs already, in less than a month. Although he mentioned taking his dog for longer walks in addition to his daily doses of Metamucil. :)

Try it, and comment about your successes or failures!
