Since people have gotten used to having a very fast-paced lifestyle, their eating habits have followed suit. A big chunk of the American population are contently feasting on easy-to-get fast food that they rarely get to eat delicious and nutritious foods that are just within reach.

To give you an idea of some of the many delectable food items you're missing on by constantly taking out dinner from your favorite fast food chain, here is a list of them:

Let's start off with fruits. A good example of a really tasty fruit is the kiwi. This little, oval-shaped fruit has just as much vitamin C packed into in it as an average-sized orange. But more than that, it also packs in potassium and has a lot of dietary fiber. You can choose to eat it with its skin or peeled, sliced or pureed, on its own or as part of a salad. Whichever way you want to eat it, know that kiwis will be a great change from your usual salt and cholesterol heavy fast food diet.

Another fruit you might want to get re-acquainted to is the pomegranate. Bound in its leathery rind, this fruit is oozing with antioxidants, more specifically proanthocyanins. It is also rich in polyphenols and flavonoid compounds which are said to be heart friendly. Aside from that, it also contains vitamins C and K, and potassium. When eating pomegranates, be careful not to get some on your clothes because they stain badly. To eat them, you cut the crown, score the fruit's rind on all sides, and immerse it in water. Once soft enough, open the fruit and push the seeds out into the water to sink. Membrane and pulp that floats on the water can be skimmed off. Once the seeds are strained and washed, they're ready for you to enjoy.
